« Olivier, wake up, wake up! ». Sailing strait from the coast of Siberia, your « yellow patched boat » is now suspect!   Some U.S Coast Guard undercover navy seals need to board her…

“The Kamikaze Crowd” or “the ultimate knight’s charge of Breskell cavalry” To set up the tone for our last leg home, I picked up this advice in Michener famous book: “Alaska”.

Leaving Nunivak for the Aleoutians

Leaving Nunivak for the Aleoutians

It’s 9:35 AM September 12th. My old faithful Perkins rumbles again to life. The wind dropped in the morning and our Nunivak anchorage is pretty quiet.

To Nome Alaska from Bering Strait.

Beautiful Bering strait!  Today, we reach some kind of sailing “high”.

Just a few hours after leaving Tuktuyatuk and already falling far away behind, disappears a little dot.  A last farewell to “Morgane” before losing forever sight of our friends.

To Nome Alaska (part 3:Tuktuyatuk)

Our initial journey was rounding the shallow water of Cape Parry and sail directly to Nome in Alaska.   An unexpected encounter with a vicious growler changed our plans. Sailing in Arctic water, you adapt!

Emergency repair at sea. Whatever the weather, your comfort, your fatigue or your personal timetable, keep a sharp look out at all time.  A magnificent nature rules here and doesn’t tolerate any human weakness.

August 20th.  Cambridge Bay fades behind us.  Our camp 4, in Nome, Alaska, lays 1700 miles (ca. 2,736 km)away.  To officially qualify for a Est- West North West Passage, we must first cross the Bering Strait.

Franklin Strait to Cambridge Bay, camp 3, (14)

Midday and we pass Tasmania Island in Franklin Strait.  it’s open water all around.  Our three boats run at about 5 knots on flat water.
